I am currently attending Fay School as an 8th grader. I love learning and studying. My favorite subjects are math and science. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved math. I attend Russian School of Math and do a bunch of activities outside of school that help improve my math skills.
My academic journey has had some twists and turns. I started first grade at Fay in the Fall of 2018 and loved it, quickly making many friends and immersing myself into its rich environment.
Several months later, we had to move to NYC because of my dad’s job, and I found myself at Léman Manhattan Preparatory School. Even though I missed my friends at Fay, being in the heart of New York City was super exciting. Léman Manhattan Prep is literally located across the street from the New York Stock Exchange, and I felt like I was watching history happen almost every morning on the way to school.
Here, for example, is a picture my dad snapped one morning before dropping me off. It just happened to be the day when Uber became a publicly traded company, which meant anyone could now own a piece of it.
Speaking of history, my school’s building used to be a bank that went bankrupt during the Great Depression. Part of our cafeteria was downstairs in what used to be the vault where they kept all the money! You would enter through giant vault doors like the kind you might see in a bank heist movie!
New York had a lot to offer outside of school too. Going to places like Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty taught me a lot about American history and how important immigration is. That means a lot to me because both of my parents were born in other countries.
And since I really like math, visiting the Museum of Math in NYC was always fun and exciting." While I was at Leman, I took part in the Noetic Math Contest and was excited to win both a National Honor Roll and a Team Winner medal.
We moved back to Massachusetts when schools switched to remote learning because of COVID-19, and since my dad’s job was now in Boston again (he had joined a new company), we were able to stay for good. I was really happy to rejoin my old friends at Fay in 3rd grade, bringing all the exciting things I had learned in New York with me. One thing I’m especially thankful for from my time in NYC is that it got me hooked on tennis (see the tennis section).
